Google Launches Gemini: New AI Model to Rival OpenAI's ChatGPT (openAI)

Starting on Wednesday, Google will launch Gemini, a new artificial intelligence (AI) model designed to help them more effectively compete with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, and Microsoft, which provide business-oriented computer applications for the general public.

"This is our most comprehensive, robust, and all-encompassing IA model," stated Eli Collins, a vice president at Google DeepMind, the Californian group's IA research laboratory, in a press conference.
Then, it released a video in which a user views objects, drawings, and videos on Gemini. En apportant une remarque orale sur ce qu'il "voit", le système d'IA reconnaît les objets, émet une music, répond à des questions demandant un certain niveau d'analyse et justifie une "raisonnement".

Eli Collins described the new model as "multimedia from the outset, it has sophisticated reasoning capabilities and can code at an advanced level."

Since the launch of ChatGPT a year ago, the titans of Silicon Valley have been contributing heavily to artificial intelligence (IA) known as generational AI. This allows for the simple request in common language to produce texts, graphics, or code at a level comparable to that produced by humans.

Google, a leader in AI but taken aback by ChatGPT's phenomenal success, responded in part with Bard, one of its own chatbots.

But everything happens at the level of the models—the computer systems that support these applications.

Gemini, "c'est une étape de plus vers notre vision : vous amener le meilleur collaborateur d'IA au monde", an évoqué mercredi Sissie Hsiao, la vice-présidente de Google in charge de Bard.

Bard needs to start improving his skills on Wednesday, but only with written requests in English. For the remaining functions and formats, such as the advanced math problem-solving assistance, 2024 is needed.
